Ethel Caterham, a resident in Hallmark Lakeview Luxury Care Home, is the last surviving subject of Edward VII. She was born in 1909, three years before the Titanic disaster, eight years before the Russian Revolution and lived through two World Wars. She is also the oldest ever British person.
Ethel puts her secret to a long life down to taking everything in her stride, the highs and lows and never arguing with anyone, listening and doing the things she likes. She says yes to every opportunity because you never know what it will lead to. She advises having a positive mental attitude and have everything in moderation.
Whilst we are not sure how long Ethel has been at the Care Home, it is a stark reminder that if you, or a loved one, are the point of a care need or are about to enter care, then be sure to take professional, specialist later life planning advice. If you are concerned about assets being whittled away in care costs, have you heard of the Immediate Care Plan? A potential solution to give you a guaranteed tax-free income towards your care for life, effectively capping the cost of care and giving you and the family peace of mind.
