Who we are

We are an independent financial and legal advice firm, based in Westbury on Trym, Bristol. Launched by Richard Higgs in 2011, Harold Stephens specialises in helping give those in later life clarity and confidence in financial planning.

We are passionate about being trusted advisers for people in retirement and their loved ones and carers. Richard's vision for Harold Stephens was to create a firm solely focused on later life financial issues that also feels ‘old fashioned’ – in how it looks and in how we treat our clients.

In a time when everything seems to be moving ‘online’, we are steadfastly offering a high street office with real people that are readily available to help you – face-to-face.

Built on family values and trust

Harold Stephens is named after Richard’s grandfather who was thought of as a ‘numbers man’. The ironic thing was he spent all his life working in money but was never very good at saving!

Richard said, “I always admired my Grandfather in many ways. His generosity, sense of humour, love of his family and kindness. And so I’ve always tried to follow those principles as much as I can. That was another reason why we decided to name the firm after him - to run the firm according to those values.”

Family and community will always be at the heart of everything we do. These values are shared by the whole team and it’s one of the reasons we work so well together.
